Macular Hole

A macular hole is a minute aperture that develops in the central portion of the retina, known as the macula. The retina serves as the light-sensitive layer at the posterior part of the eye. The macula, located at the center of the retina, is responsible for sharp and detailed vision necessary for activities like reading. Initially, a macular hole may result in vision that is hazy and distorted. Straight lines might appear curved or bent, and difficulty reading small text may arise. Subsequently, a small dark spot or a region of absent vision may manifest in the central visual field. Despite the absence of pain, the condition does not progress to complete blindness. Surgical intervention is typically required to mend the hole.
